One definition of educational technology (Wikipedia, 2007) is a collaboration of educators and technology to enhance the learning process. The definition used the terms “idea” technology, which I feels comes from the teacher, and “product” technology that comes from the computer. The explanation of what is educational technology is pretty basic but it is the how to implement it that is the tough part. I do not think that anyone would disagree that educational technology will enhance leaning but exactly how to do it cannot be easily defined. One has to be proficient in the technical aspects of computers to implement their ideas. This is where I am lacking. I do not know what all is available and accessible to me as a teacher. Once you start learning the product part of technology the ideas you have can be implemented. It will also help to foster new ideas to enhance your classroom. I would like to learn more about interactive activities for my students (such as power points and scavenger hunts). I noticed someone’s blog listed moviemaker, which would be an awesome project for students. I would also like to be able to create and maintain a web page. I am sure there is so much out there that I am not aware of and I am willing to learn.

Purpose and expectations

My initial goal is to become a librarian, of course, but the more that I think about the technology in schools I am thinking broader. As I mentioned before that a good friend got me interested in becoming a librarian and now I can see why she was also relied on for most technology needs in the school as well. Just from the first class and the first reading assignment I am really noticing how we are just stacking technology on top of what we already do. I have discussed this with my team teachers and they agree. One of my goals for this class as well as ongoing is to integrate technology in a meaningful way. As a teacher I do not think I have the time or take the time that is needed to do this. Also, I do not feel my campus has that support to help teachers do this effectively. As to what specific skills I want to develop will require more thinking since it is such a broad area.

All about me...
My name is Cindy Kennedy. I teach 5th grade at Chisum Elementary in Paris, Texas. This is my 4th year to teach. I am beginning my graduate work in Library Science. A good friend of mine was a librarian and I think that is where I became interested in becoming one myself. This is my first semesyter. I am excited about the technology courses that go along with this degree. The title of this class states that it is an introduction and that is where I need to be.
